P1 C- Game Types
There are many video
game genres used in the industry today. Below I have featured several types.
Action- Adventure
Driving and Racing
First- Person
Shooter
Platform and
Puzzle
Role Playing
Role- Playing games make you take on the role or 'persona' of someone else or more than one person. An example of a role-playing game is Sims freeplay, as you take on the role of a sim or more than one sim and control their 'life' within the game. Another example of a role--playing game is runescape. These games are popular with all ages as they are family friendly although can be confusing to play. However, unlike sims, there are some role-playing games that are age-ratings.
Strategy and Simulation
Strategy and Stimulation games are games that play out realistic situations such as driving a car or flying a plane. Some of these can take hours to play and can be complex. These games often require an element of strategy as they are generally much harder than arcade games etc
Sports and beat-’
Em Ups
Sporting games are ones that stimulate the practise of sport. Such games include team sports, track, field, extreme and com bat sports. In some games the player is able to play the sport through a person perspective such as on the Wii Fit. Others emphasize sports management and strategy; such as Championship Management.
These type of games involve physical and tactical challenges and can test the players sense of accuracy.
Some examples of popular sports games involve FIFA, PGA Tour 1 GOLF, ESPN NFL Football.

P1 D- Games on multi
platforms
Games on multi platforms, or as sometimes referred to as 'Cross Platform Games', are games that are released on a variety of platforms for usage. For instance the Play station, X- Box and Wii.
Games are usually released on Cross Platforms as a way for publishers to enhance the distribution and advertisement of their game, meaning that simply a lot more people will be able to buy it and their games control will not alter this. If the game is only released on one platform for example, a lot less people will be able to buy it as their games console may not be compatible with this.
Many publishers who have previously only released their game on one platform, are beginning to re-release it years later as a way for them to build up more consumers. This is an easy way to build up the lifespan of the game also, as the re-release may provide them with more consumers of a younger age, or those who previously were not familiar with the game. Therefore more users are introduced to the game although it has previously been available years earlier.

Call Of Duty
Call of duty is clearly a multi-platform game, as it has been released and advertised as available on several different games consoles. For instance, the latest and most updated game from 2007 is Call of Duty Modern Warfare. This is available on X- Box 360, Play station 3 and the Wii.
Fifa
Fifa is also a multi-platform game, being available on several platforms for many years. An example for this is their newest game which is yet to be released; Fifa 17. This game was announced to become available on ios, Android, Microsoft Windows, Play Station 3 and the Wii.
Some Publishers may not be familiar with the games consoles or 'platforms' which are new in the world of video games, meaning essentially that the time for them to make a new game may lengthen. This is due to the fact that they would need to familiarise themselves firstly with the hardware and software of this console. Many games are not available across multi-platforms, due to many reasons such as licensing agreements between developers and video games console manufacturers. This would clearly limit the use of a game onto just one platform or console. An example used to illustrate this is Grand Theft Auto. This game was originally made exclusive for consoles such as the Play Station due to a contract formed by Sony. However, it is clear how Grand Theft Auto has recently became available on various other platforms, such as X-Box, and on the App store, meaning people can play the game through their mobile phones.
